let the motor run | poetry

I told you what I remembered

what I knew

in your car

and you were so annoyed

so impatient

stubborn

irritated

dismissive

why

you weren’t feeling a thing

you didn’t hear me

all I had in your company

was packaging

you closed your eyes

only when listening to stories

only then you could relate

and listen

and when the story ended

I sat next to you

with the packaging ripped

and you requested everything exposed

to rush back into hiding

I took myself home
