Heimweh | a grief poem

around the corner she goes

into the water

toenails drowned

tiles cracked

the sun shines

waiting

unaware

for a death unknown

a death that waits

in the next room

a death that announces itself

as it happens

it already has

happened

she stands in blood, in her own, his

and what now

to his bones

what happens now

to his bones

can’t put them back together

stop the blood

stop the ground

stop the world

from opening up

too much

she can’t breathe

this swallowed air
