root case | transgenerational poetry

I wonder what goes on in his head

the head lying heavy on the pillow

only his tears can move, his eyelids

my father’s sinking eyes afloat

*

and I don’t know what to say

how to move

around him

the decaying man

in the middle of a room

staring me down

pretending to know me

*

and I felt safe

an electric glass wall between us

where did you come from

*

the head lying heavy on the pillow

stillborn dialogues

instead of peace

*

where are you from

I am my father’s disentangled daughter

I am my mother’s resurrected daughter
