Wahnsinnsgespenst | a poem

what his mind does to his body

his body does to us

*

his mind is visible on his body

his mind makes itself known

rises out of his mouth

out of his eyes and fingers

his mind has a mind of its own

his mind takes over his entire features

takes his body and becomes a thing external

*

I think my father is in there somewhere

it’s my father after all

but he’s a little boy in a man’s abused body

an unknown man in a little boy’s punished soul

and he uses violence to get out

he can’t recognise the household he’s in

and that it is his

that the countries have changed

that the homes have changed

but my father doesn’t belong to us

he has always belonged to his ghosts eternal
