Denkbilder | a poem

who said that I wanted your affection

maybe I just needed you to make me feel less alive

*

you look at me like there’s something wrong

with me

but you’re smiling

*

you tell me who I am

and I believe you against my better judgement

and I feel my body getting smaller

*

when I saw my father’s expression

on your face

on my face

I should have known better

*

and we drove to a place

that belonged to us only

and we screamed at the pretences

below us because we ran out of words

*

you told me to swallow my tongue

and I  grew poetry in my stomach
