I Still Can’t Believe It | A Poem

Scroll down to content

I never thought

That I would hold

Your obituary in my hands,

That I would keep it together

Between two books, two spines,

Two worlds, two pairs of crutches,

In the envelope still, the words

That I never wanted to read,

Flat, it never crossed my mind

That this would ever happen to us.

“Interior with a Reading Lady” by Vilhelm Hammershøi (1864-1916)
