Frauengrab | transgenerational poetry

she steps into a room to disappear

become inanimate

contemplating the murder

her mother had never committed

*

she aligns her furniture like a cemetery

she looks after everything dead and beautiful

and swallows her mother’s uncommitted infanticide

*

words transcended their graves

and crept back into her skull

keeping her up at night

removing layers of her skin

her mother’s voice rust underneath her fingernails

*

she daydreams about her lifeless head on a pillow

good night as in it’d be pleasant not to wake up

but I’d watch her live and nothing would be scarier
