Einbruch | a poem about grief

she barely held herself upright

on her two feet

she had come

and stepped forward

to kiss your body goodbye

to let you go

you had already disappeared

and with her lips

pressed against your face

your bones cracked

everything inside of you was broken

that was the point

you found liberation

self-preservation

through the cracks

that looked like yourself

again

and you held on

you entered fire in a winter’s jacket

in your favourite blanket

and I conserve your name

I pull it out of your ashes
